Surviving TSA Nash-ionals

Surviving TSA Nash-ionals

Let’s Build A Legacy – Surviving TSA Nash-ionals

A large house ontop of a cliff side. This year, the TSA National Conference will be held at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center in Nashville, TN. With over 7,000 TSA members and 68 competitive events, this five-day conference is arguably the highlight of our year.

Here are a few tips for surviving and succeeding at the 2016 TSA National Conference:

Pre-Conference

  • Pack official TSA attire. You know the drill – gray bottoms, dress shoes, the official TSA shirt, and, for men, the red TSA necktie. This is important – you’ll only be allowed to compete in your events if you are wearing official attire. So, dress for success!
  • But pack casual clothing too. The Gaylord Resort boasts of 17 restaurants and dining areas, an indoor pool, and a lazy river. Not to mention there are tons of sites and attractions to visit in Nashville, TN, so be ready to have some summer fun!
  • Practice, Prepare, and Get Pumped! Be ready to represent New Jersey and compete on the national level for your competitive events!

At The Conference

  • Carry snacks and water. You’ll likely be spending a lot of time on your feet during the conference. Stay hydrated and pack snacks for energy on the go.
  • Make friends! It’s not every day you get to meet people from all over the country who are as excited as you are about TSA, so network! Whether you’re waiting in line for food or signing up for a presentation time, talk to and learn from the TSA members and alumi around you.
  • Use the opportunities. Attend leadership seminars available at the conference, talk to national officer candidates at the TSA Meet & Greet, and check out competitive events you don’t normally participate in. The national conference is one of the best teachers you can get in TSA 101 – aside from your wonderful NJ TSA Chapter Advisors.

Post-Conference

  • Yes, the dreaded Post-Conference Slump. The national conference may be over, but you’ve got all summer to start thinking about your TSA plans for next year! For graduating seniors, consider joining the TSA alumni association to stay connected with your favorite Career and Technical Student Organization.
