On February 11th NJ TSA members met at the Prudential Center in Newark for a special event hosted by the New Jersey Devils. NJ TSA members arrived two hours prior to the game, and received the opportunity to learn about the technology behind the game of hockey, as well as a few of the off-ice careers involved in the upkeep of the rink. Presenters Jim Cima (Senior Vice President, Arena Operations) and Rich Framiran (Manager of Rink Operations) touched on a variety of topics – the miles of cold water pipes under the ice, the transition of ice rink to basketball court, and even the Zamboni. NJ TSA members even got the chance to go down on the ice with the “icemen” and look at the inner workings of the Zamboni used in the game. After the presentation, members stayed to watch the game. The New Jersey Devils faced the San Jose Sharks, winning with a score of 2-1!

In all, 350 students attended the event. Schools in attendance included Biotechnology High School, Lake Riviera Middle School, Marine Academy of Science and Technology, Bloomfield High School, High Point Regional High School, Howell High School, High Technology High School, Colts Neck High School, and Manalapan High School. All attendees had a wonderful time and NJ TSA looks forward to the possibility of holding another event with the NJ Devils in years to come.
